Chimpanzee Communication

We had an Inquiry Day on Monday. Our Big Idea for the day was Living things use Sounds and Expressions to Communicate. After Jumping in and learning how to speak chimpanzee we explored the big idea by gathering information, thinking and asking questions. We then decided that the best way to share our new knowlegde was to make a movie about the different ways chimps communicate.

Here it is....we hope you learn something new!

Trip to the Windy Wellington Zoo....

(download)

On Thursday Room 2, Room 3, and Room 5 went on a trip to the Windy Wellington Zoo. We meet Lynn (zoo teacher) at the Zoo School and she taught us about the different ways animals communicate with each other.

We had a picnic lunch up by the Chimpanzees and almost got blown away in the strong Wellington wind. After lunch we went in small groups to explore the zoo.

It was a great day but the wind made us very tired and some of us had a nap on the bus on the way home.

Today it snowed at Crofton Downs Primary School!!!

Room 2 wrote a snow poem and we made a snowstorm movie,

The snow day at school

The white cold winter snow
is falling to the earth.
Snowflakes swirl around
and the wind pushes and pulls them
before they hit the ground
Snowflakes stick to trees and leaves
it makes it look like Christmas time
All the snow looks like a snowman's body
it is fluffy but cold.
